On the other hand, there is also a large number of children who, although they are on the other side of the window, grow up in families where parents don't have time for them. These children have everything they desire, except for attention and love, so they escape to the streets. "The Little Match Girl" highlights the problem of the disenfranchised position of children in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with systematically denied rights to a normal upbringing. The play is set in the space of an underpass, marked by graffiti, dirt, cold, and dangerous concrete. Thanks to the imagination and fantasy inherent only to a child, this space transforms into an unrestricted area where, through play, creativity, and hope, complete freedom is achieved. "The Little Match Girl" is not a typical fairy tale; it lacks a happy ending, and the main character doesn't become a princess or find her hero on a white horse. It is relevant and appropriate to the time when many children in Bosnia and Herzegovina are exposed to violence, forced to beg on the streets, and unable to attend school. Deprived, neglected, discarded, and often subjected to economic violence, these children share the fate of the Little Match Girl, who on New Year's Eve peeks through the windows of the more fortunate. Even though the windows are closed, she senses the smell of food, the warmth of home, and hears the laughter of a united family.

The play Girls with Matches was co-produced with the Sarajevo Puppetry Studio.
